    Program

Musikalische Exequien, Op. 7 was written upon the request of German prince ‎Henry II of Reuss-Gera, and includes texts taken from the Old Testament, the gospels and ‎Lutheran chorales. It was probably during the time Heinrich Schütz spent in Italy that he ‎became interested in and able to compose music to capture the meanings and imagery of ‎text, and to dramatise the emotions contained in it this way. This is one of the elements that ‎most influenced other composers of subsequent generations, as we will see on this musical ‎journey.‎
