Supporting artist : Hayden Thorpe
Jon Hopkins has based his entire musical career on contrast, polarization, the storm that destroys you and the calm that heals you. Be it through his five studio albums (the latest, the acclaimed Singularity, released in 2018), his soundtracks (Monsters of 2010 is especially celebrated) or rare avis such as his cult album with King Creosote (Diamond Mine) or through his most recent ventures into meditation music (the 20 minutes of Meditations, released last year), the British artist and producer is a true organic electronic music alchemist. He is able to delve into soundscapes of oppressive hard-hitting techno and seconds later find himself in a contemplative ambient landscape, his proposal of radical contrast does not divide but merges into a whole: the outbursts would be harrowing if those profound moments of stillness did not follow... and vice versa.
True to its essence, Jon Hopkins' Polarity tour will present the artist's two faces for the first time in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. That is, in Hopkins's own words, “the elements of harsh and fragile” in his music, with a mise-en-scene that will combine a grand piano with his usual analogue machinery and that this time will also feature musicians on stage including Leo Abrahams (guitarist), Emma Smith (violinist) and Daisy Vatalaro (cellist).
Also to round off the night there will be an exceptional guest: Hayden Thorpe, vocalist of the much-missed Wild Beasts, already at ease in his solo career thanks to the album Diviner (2019) and the EP Aerial Songs (2020), which graphically defines his music. In short, the perfect complement, to a night of polarized music ... in the good sense of the word.
