Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson is one of the most acclaimed composers of recent times. Influenced by the minimalist movement of the 20th century, his album entitledOrphée is an exceptional mix of electronic and classical orchestral music but which does not conform to a specific genre. He is most well-known for writing film soundtracks such as Arrival and The Theory of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe. His works reflect his obsession with sound textures and minimal forms in a bid to reach the microscopic core of the music to extract its essence and use it to build up layers of sound.
Orphée is his latest album released in 2016 by Deutsche Grammophone.
He has recently been named as the Best Film Composer of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards.
