Born in Valencia but putting down roots in Barcelona from an early age, Manuel Oltra lived 93 intense years of music and teaching. As a teacher, he left a huge musical legacy, especially in the field of cobla music and choral music. This concert is a poetic stroll through Manuel Oltra’s choral works by his poets: the hooligan and surreal humour of Pere Quart, a pseudonym of Joan Oliver from Sabadell for his poetic work; the romantic rage of Jacint Verdaguer, who was inspired by the popular songs he collected in Osona during his youth; the Andalusian and melancholy evocation of Federico García Lorca, a musician as well as a poet; or the poignant, passionate words with close ties to song of Joan Salvat-Papasseit.
