Program

Björn Bus returns to lead our concert band following the success received last year. Once again featuring a comprehensive musical journey through space and time, incorporating Russian, European and North American music, with works from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The strong and epic nature of Russian music is showcased with classic scores from the glorious past of Russian imperialism: Glinka takes inspiration from a poem by Pushkin and Kalinnikov, in a play by Tolstoy. European music takes us on a journey from the beginning of the universe, with British composer Philip Sparke’s most spectacular work, to the nostalgia of love lost, with the achingly beautiful song of love by the great Richard Strauss. Finally, we get a double dose of American music: Alfred Reed’s work based on the romantic melody Wagner wrote as a tribute to his wife, and the most American work from Parisian Serge Lancen, composed in the sixties following a trip to the city of skyscrapers. The sounds of Central Park, Harlem and Broadway are expressed by the band.
