8th edition of the Llums d’Antiga Festival
Six concerts to explore nine centuries of music

From April 9 to 22, the Llums d’Antiga Festival returns, a series that transforms iconic venues in Barcelona —such as the Church of Sant Felip Neri, the Basilica of Saints Justus and Pastor, the Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp and L’Auditori— into stages for an immersive musical experience that brings together music, history and architecture. Its 8th edition offers a journey spanning nearly nine centuries, from the Renaissance to contemporary creation, with the aim of reviving often forgotten repertoire and placing it in dialogue with present-day works.

Featuring top-level artists, both international and local, the programme maintains its distinctive focus on interpretative excellence and the dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. This year, that dialogue is especially evident with three major premieres: two national premieres by Héloïse Werner and Caroline Shaw, and a world premiere by Tom Coult.

The festival is structured around six concerts offering a journey that ranges from the sacred polyphony of Palestrina (Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina) and German Baroque music prior to Johann Sebastian Bach (German Baroque Lament), to a broad time span connecting the Renaissance with the 21st century (From the Renaissance to the 21st Century). The programme also includes a dialogue between historical repertoire and contemporary creation through the cello of Nicolas Altstaedt (Cello between Past and Present), the English consort tradition with Phantasm (17th-century English Music), and a journey through vocal music spanning nine centuries, from Hildegard von Bingen to the present day (Vocal Music from the Renaissance to Today).
