Programme
Paradoxically – or perhaps not – local manifestations of art, often referred to in terms of folklore, resonate beyond their particular origin to confirm the universal trend of cultivating the meaning of life based on the feeling of belonging that confirms one’s roots. Within the range of the fin-de-siècle spirit, composers such as Debussy and Albéniz evoke picturesque atmospheres in which fantasy feeds into tradition.
In addition to the famed Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune,or the less well-known suite The Magic Opal, this concert, held far from L’Auditori in Barcelona and conducted by Ludovic Morlot, will include the dazzling presence of soprano Núria Rial who will sing a selection of songs by Mompou, orchestrated by Albert Guinovart, and a popular song by Gerhard.
The event in Hamburg will also be a good chance to showcase a new piece by Miquel Oliu. The concert will end with Ravel’s Bolero, a work inspired by Spanish-Arabic melodies and labelled experimental by its composer. This is perhaps why, maybe hyperbolically, he said that “this is a piece which the big Sunday Concerts will never dare include in their programmes”.
