Programme

The intensity of the Wagner’s long operas is condensed into overtures, instrumental passages that anticipate some of the fundamental reasons and essential accomplices for the development of dramatic action. A ghostly voyage gives a sense of Der Fliegende Holländer, the opera written by Wagner in 1841, based on disturbing legend. Depending on the day of the concert, this overture will be continued in two different ways, both fast-paced and lavish in triggering emotions in listeners. 

On Friday, Inés Issel will take the leading role in Prokofiev’s attractive Violin Concert No 1 and, on Saturday, Emma Stratton will perform the solo role in Mozart’s delightful Piano Concerto No 23, a deeply classical score yet that seems to anticipate Romanticism in such heartfelt movements as the adagio. The impressive Symphony No 2 by Jean Sibelius, with sounds that sublimely evoke the immensity of the Nordic landscape, will end both concerts led by Anthony Hermus.
