Programme
Franz Schreker’s sublime Nachtstück, composed in 1906, draws the listener into a dreamlike reality. A nocturnal fantasy, dominated by gentle, nostalgic passages, alternates with a restlessness that invites the orchestra to engage in intricate dialogues between its sections.
The anthological versatility of the clarinet knows no bounds in the hands of virtuoso and multiple award-winning composer Jörg Widmann. Olga Newirth has conceived a wholly new concert –a national première, it was completed in 2025– which will be performed by Widmann and the OBC under the baton of Giedre Slekyte.
Schumann’s Spring Symphony is undoubtedly his most expansive and lyrical work. The vehemence of the opening declamation evokes a longing for fulfilment, deployed with the utmost delicacy and a nostalgic aftertaste in the Larghetto. The listener is transported through episodes of high drama in the Scherzo that eventually lead to a celebratory, fast-paced Allegro.
