Programme

Wolfgang A. Mozart’s piano concertos may be among his most decisive contributions to the history of music, as they place orchestras and soloists in dialogues that activate emotional impulses with unprecedented intelligence and sophistication. Continuing with the goal of programming the complete works over several seasons, pianist Saskia Giorgini – winner of the 2016 International Mozart Piano Competition – will perform the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 17 in G, KV 453.

It will be preceded by Wojciech Kilar’s Orawa, an orchestral work from 1986 that continues to fascinate listeners to this day with its repetitive rhythms and minimalist motifs that create tension and a continuous heartbeat. In the second part, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances will bring the concert to a close with a combination of lyrical passages and orchestral explosions, expansive harmonies and varied rhythms that reflect the vitality of late Romanticism. With Marta Gardolinska as the conductor, the performance is sure to remain faithful to the scores’ truths.
