Programme
In this concert, the members of the Jove Capella choir formed by Lluís Vilamajó (who frequently collaborates with Jordi Savall) perform one of the finest choral masterpieces in Hispanic music: the Misa pro defunctis (or requiem) by Cristóbal de Morales. Alongside works by Francisco Guerrero and Tomás Luis de Victoria, the Mass for the Dead, penned for five voices by the Andalusian composer Morales, is one of the most distinctive examples of Castilian polyphony from the second half of the 16th century. It is a piece that goes beyond individual beliefs, opening the door to a serene meditation akin to the mystical experiences of his contemporaries, Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross.
