pROGRAMME
The concert opens with the world premiere of the piece Veus ex Machina by Franck Heudiard, violist of the OBC.
Next, we will embark on a journey between two styles and two very different approaches to chamber music: the lightness and sophistication of Françaix and the rhythmic energy of Stravinsky.
Jean Françaix, a master of elegance and ingenuity, offers us two works that, although separated by forty years, share the same scintillating spirit. His String Trio (1933) combines agility and precision in a musical flow that feels natural despite its considerable technical challenges. In the Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet (1977), the clarinet assumes a prominent role, infusing the piece with lyricism, humour and an impressive rhythmic dynamism while presenting a variety of changing colours. Stravinsky, on the other hand, transports us to a drier and more direct language with his Concertino for String Quartet (1920), which, in just seven minutes, packs a surprising rhythmic and structural punch with a play on tensions and releases that demand great precision and control from the musicians.
