The projects of this educational initiative of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya are aimed at promoting jazz in Catalonia from an informative, creative and experimental perspective. In recent years, the ESMUC Jazz Project has introduced the general public to the music of big names in the jazz world, including Carla Bley, Ralph Towner and Chick Corea, and has provided an exciting challenge for the students and their teachers. In this new adventure, conductors Joan Díaz, Joan Monné, Joan Sanmartí, Francesc Capella and Lluís Vidal will lead the band through the sound universe of saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter, a living jazz legend who formed part of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis’s quintet, and was co-founder of the legendary jazz fusion band Weather Report.
