The aim of the ESMUC Jazz Project is to promote jazz in Catalonia from an informative, creative and experimental perspective. This year, the band’s project is based on the work of Chick Corea, one of the most important figures on the jazz scene over the past 40 years. From his large repertoire of compositions, the ESMUC Jazz Project has chosen Children’s Songs, a compilation of 20 short pieces for piano that, in the words of the composer himself, seek to “convey simplicity as beauty, as represented in the spirit of a child.” The Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC) Symphony Band takes on the challenge of translating these musical miniatures into the format of a large ensemble, combining the sounds of the idiomatic instruments of jazz with those of the instruments of other genres.
