This season at the Emergents Festival, the ESMUC Jazz Project presents the music of the ‎multi-instrumentalist, composer and conductor Ralph Towner.‎

Program

The ESMUC Jazz Project seeks to promote jazz in Catalonia from an educational, creative and ‎experimental perspective. This season it will be presenting the music of the multi-‎instrumentalist, composer and conductor Ralph Towner (Washington, 1940). Trained as a ‎classical pianist, Towner’s music was a major influence during the 1970s through his group ‎Oregon, with which he fused American roots music with avant-garde jazz and free ‎improvisation. Towner’s sound avoids excessive amplification and overly loud environments ‎and finds its ideal place in small groups of acoustic instruments, with which he emphasises ‎dynamic nuances and the relationship between instrumentalists. A jazz maestro in the hands ‎of musicians of the future.‎
