The fifty-year history of Manuel de la Calva and Ramón Arcusa as artists is without a shadow of a doubt fascinating and decidedly unusual. Born into working class families, immigrants from the Basque Country and Aragon respectively, they found in their native Barcelona everything they needed to become a success, which they exported instantly to the rest of Spain and South America. As writers, producers and arrangers, many of their works have also proved hugely successful for other artists from Sweden to Australia and from France to Japan.
They began their work as producers – collaborating with artists such as Julio Iglesias, Camilo Sesto and Nino Bravo – and artistic directors on albums, but returned to the stage 6 years later and since then have not stopped treading the boards in a career laden with success which continues to attract generation after generation of fans. It is impossible to define the prime importance in just a few lines of the compositions by Manuel de la Calva and Ramón Arcusa on pop music, both for those young people who 50 years ago covered their bedroom walls with posters of the Dúo Dinámico and the thousands of musicians whom they have influenced through their songs.
