In the first one Steel Drumming plays José Afonso is the project of a man of freedom. It appears to be an encounter with the history of songs from a country that sought freedom and won. Yet surprisingly what you hear and see is much more than a struggle: it is an objective intention towards discovery, audacity and meticulousness, daring to cross cultures as José Afonso crossed generations. In a singular choice of the most renowned and enigmatic subjects in its repertoire, Drumming GP reinterprets the view of the world by one of the greatest composers and performers of Portuguese music. Without borders. Unafraid of finding the Portugality in a fado guitar whose roots are in Africa, between Coimbra and the Caribbean.
