Program

Music can be performed on stage in many different ways. Veus is committed to making their music colourful and moving, to fill the sounds with visual details producing a rich, consummate performance. From our own home to Southeast Asia and from there to the United States, the group takes us on a journey that begins with Wau Bulan, a Malaysian folk song that describes the beauty of the traditional Malaysian kite, which is shaped like a crescent moon when flying. From there, the journey continues with a sample of folk songs harmonised by the maestro Josep Maria Ruera, a musician and teacher with close ties to Granollers. There will also be a premiere by the composer and soprano Anna Campmany, an award winner in The International Choral Music Competition Orfeó Català 2019.

From the resolve and firmness of step proclaimed in the spiritual Nothin’ gonna stumble my feet, we will then move on to the delicate and poignant Under the Willow. This song is about a mother who loses her child, reminding us that love is the strongest and most eternal bond that exists. We will finish with three dazzling pieces: Lauda Sion by the Hungarian György Orbán, which could almost be a competition piece with its vibrant harmonies, rhythmic games and dynamic contrasts; Kirishitan-Imayo by the Japanese composer Hideki Chihara, which, in the same vein, uses a religious text which is overlaid with frenetic musical surprises; and finally the concert will end with a song of hope that the Granollers-based group has taken all around the world.
