This year was the fifth edition of Barcelona Symphony Orchestra’s concert ‎on the beach, which has now become one of Barcelona’s top summer symphonic events.‎

Classical music for all members of the public
TheOBChas confirmed the success of its previous editions with an ‎audience of over14,000 spectators who enjoyed its performance of ‎classical music on Sant Sebastià beach. Families and friends, tourists and local residents, and ‎people of all ages flocked to La Barceloneta not leaving a grain of sand uncovered to enjoy ‎this traditional concert of symphony music on the seashore.‎
Álvaro Albiach was this year’s guest conductor at a concert that featured ‎excerpts from major symphonies by Bernstein, ‎‎Tchaikovsky, Britten, Delibes and ‎‎Manuel de Falla, among others. There was also time for a surprise ending, ‎with Camperola by Toldrà, Danzón no. 2 by ‎‎Márquez Navarro and the Mambo from West Side ‎Story as encores. ‎

Albiach told the audience: “It’s most moving to be here today as guest ‎conductor and to receive such a warm reception from you” and he reminded everyone that ‎‎“L’Auditori is the Orchestra’s real home and more visits must be made to it”.‎

Those who were unable to attend the concert on the beach today or wish to see it again can ‎watch it on television. The concert will be broadcast on Canal 33 next Friday 6th July ‎at 10 p.m. .‎

West Side Story
This is not the last performance of the season by the OBC. You still have ‎another chance to listen to it live on 18th and 19th July, when West Side Story will be screened ‎to the accompaniment of live music, although all the tickets to the concerts were sold out last ‎January. ‎
OBCPOPS
The concert on the beach forms part of a new series of concerts under the ‎titleOBCPOPS, offering performances of symphonic music suitable for all ‎members of the public so that everyone can enjoy classical music. ‎‎OBCPOPS combines al fresco concerts with popular programmes of music, ‎such as movie themes or musicals and new fusions, such as the collaboration by jazz pianist ‎Brad Mehldau.‎
