Leading national and international ensembles, including Quatuor Ébène, Jerusalem Quartet, Cosmos Quartet, Quartet Atenea, Aris Quartett, Belcea Quartet, Quartetto Maurice, Jack Quartet and Cuarteto Quiroga, will all converge at L’Auditori.
The fugue, which might be regarded as embodying the notion of an eternal return within the framework of the new season’s two prevailing themes (the 3rd movement: Death or Return), will play a key role at this year’s Biennale. The programme revolves around The Art of Fugue by J. S. Bach, performed by the Cuarteto Casals with Benjamin Alard, and it will also include works such as Reflections on the Theme B-A-C-H by Sofia Gubaidulina and Mozart’s Fugues for String Quartet after J. S. Bach.
Barcelona Quartet Biennale
The new season opens with the second Barcelona Quartet Biennale. The Biennale, which is co-curated with the Cuarteto Casals, highlights the importance of the string quartet, a much-loved musical format.
