Sonia Alins is a visual artist born in Lleida. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and later completed her studies with an Advanced Illustration Workshop at the Escola Massana in Barcelona.
As an illustrator, Sonia has undertaken projects for leading publishers in the Spanish market (Grupo Anaya, Santillana, RBA, Edelvives, Barcanova, Vicens Vives and Edebé) and for benchmark companies in various fields, such as Custo Barcelona, the Real Madrid Foundation, Diset, Educa Borràs and Vodafone. She has also received two Junceda Awards from the Catalan Association of Illustrators: the first for best illustrated children’s album (2010) and the second for best illustrated educational project (2013).
As a visual artist, Sonia Alins creates pieces linked to both her life experiences and her dreams, in which she expresses herself using a pictorial language that is intimately connected to a poetic narrative with surrealist elements. In her works, she often combines drawing with the use of other materials, textures, glazes and transparencies to create three-dimensional collages with evocative atmospheres.
Her most internationally acclaimed project is a collection of artworks called Dones d’Aigua (Women of Water) which has been exhibited in both individual and collective exhibitions in Lleida, Madrid, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels and Taipei, and has won awards at various international competitions, including a gold medal at the 2021 annual competition of the Society of Illustrators of New York, a Gold Award at the 2018 Global Illustration Awards (Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany), Awards of Excellence at the Communication Arts Illustration Annual in 2019, 2021 and 2022 (USA) and two gold medals at Le Salon des Beaux Arts in 2017 (SNBA, France).
