Roger Illa, pianist, (b. 1985) is one of the few Catalan musicians possessing extensive academic training in the historic keyboard instrumental performance and practice (clavichord, harpsichord and fortepiano). Born in Manresa, he completed his undergraduate studies in fortepiano at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in 2013, and a master's degree in early music performance at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2015.

A two-time scholarship recipient at the Académie Européenne de Musique Ancienne de Vannes (2012 y 2013), he has studied and participated in courses and masterclasses with pianists and fortepianists including Jordi Camell, Francisco Poyato, Arthur Schoonderwoerd, Jos van Immerseel, Claire Chevallier, Sophia Rosoff, Hiroko Sasaki, Stephen Sulich, Elsa Púppulo and Albert Bover.

He has performed in Catalonia, Europe and the US, including the Festival de Música Antiga in Barcelona and the Festival de Musiques Anciennes de Besançon i Montfaucon. He has also given workshops and conference presentations on historic keyboard instruments, performance, interpretative practice, manuscripts and facsimiles for advanced piano students at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu, and for undegraduate students in musicology at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (where he was on scholarship in 2013-14).

He currently divides his time between concertizing, on both modern and historical keyboard instruments, and pedagogical activities including concerts, lecture-recitals, private teaching, masterclasses and conferences. He has recently released one of the few recordings of The last seven words by F. J. Haydn.
