BIOGRAPHY
Since its formation in 2002, a constant and tireless research into sound has been the trait that has best distinguished Quartetto Maurice. After a deep investigation of the traditional classical repertoire, the Quartet has shown the need to place the music of the 20th and 21st centuries as the center of its repertoire, exploring a wide variety of contemporary languages.
The Quartet won the 35th Italian Music Critics Award “Franco Abbiati” in 2015 and the Kranichsteiner Stipendium Preis at the 48th Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt in 2016.
The 4 +1 project - in which "4" represents the string quartet and "1", the electronics - highlights the Quartet's desire to consider the electronics as the fifth full member of the group, and to to emphasize its "room" aspect by capturing the suggestions offered by the electronics, giving it a new relevance in the acoustic environment and, finally, creating a flow of sonic innovations that resonate with each other.
Over the years, Quartetto Maurice has carried out intensive training in the contemporary music repertoire, together with the greatest performers and composers on the international scene, such as Márta and György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, Philippe Manoury, Marco Stroppa, Beat Furrer, Clara Iannotta or the Arditti Quartet, among others. He is active in the promotion of new music through commissions to young composers and keeps an open mind in the complex landscape of contemporary music.
Regularly invited to perform at the most important festivals and concert seasons in Europe, North and South America, the Quartet has performed in Italy and abroad, in numerous prestigious venues.
El Quartet ha estat tutor i quartet resident a l’Acadèmia Impuls 2021 (Graz), al Festival Distat Terra de Argentina, a la Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia – Casa del Quartetto amb estudiants de quartet de corda i, el 2021, al Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik, i des del 2017 manté un taller al conservatori de Torí G. Verdi amb classes d’electrònica i composició.
