Originally from the countryside of northwest Wales, soprano Elen Lloyd Roberts is currently based in London. After graduating in Music from the University of Durham, she completed a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

She enjoys a varied freelance career as a soloist and ensemble singer, feeling equally at home on the operatic stage and the concert platform. Her operatic roles include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Marzelline (Fidelio), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Drusilla (L’incoronazione di Poppea). In 2022, she created the role of Y Ffŵl (The Fool) in Cyfrinach y Brenin (“The King’s Secret”), a new Welsh opera for children by Mared Emlyn, with OPRA Cymru. She joined Mid Wales Opera in spring 2024 for their five-star production of Verdi’s Macbeth, singing the role of a Witch.

In 2023, Elen joined the newly formed Utopia Choir and Orchestra under the baton of Teodor Currentzis, performing Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor and Peter Sellars’ production of Purcell’s The Indian Queen at the Salzburger Festspiele. She looks forward to returning to perform with Utopia in early 2025, this time in Rameau’s Castor et Pollux at the Opéra Garnier in Paris, once again under the direction of Currentzis and Sellars.

Passionate about baroque music, Elen is delighted to have been selected as the soprano soloist for the 2025 Salvat Beca Bach at the Barcelona Baroque Music Festival.
