Cor Madrigal was founded by Manuel Cabero in 1951, and from 1993 to 2019 its principal conductor was Mireia Barrera. Since September 2019, the choir has been directed by Pere Lluís Biosca. It has a clear affinity for the repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular focus on Catalan composers. At the same time, it frequently performs symphonic music, and has served as the resident choir of L’Auditori de Barcelona and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC). Over the years, it has performed under renowned conductors such as Celibidache, Currentzis, Frühbeck de Burgos, Gergiev, King, Pinnock and Rostropovich. In 1962 it sang in the world première of Falla’s Atlàntida. More recently, the choir has worked with orchestras such as the Mariinsky, MusicAeterna, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Staatskapelle Weimar and the Hungarian National Orchestra, and has taken part in several opera productions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Notable works include its recordings of Catalan music, especially the album devoted to Joaquim Homs, as well as its collaboration with the OBC and Pablo González on a Granados project for Naxos. Cor Madrigal has also collaborated with the artist Perejaume, and completed an artistic residency from 2011 to 2014 at the Auditori de Vilafranca. It receives support from the Catalan Ministry of Culture and the Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona.
