The Orfeó Català Children’s Choir comprises around seventy singers aged between eleven and seventeen. From its foundation until 2008, the choir was conducted by Elisenda Carrasco. It is currently directed by Glòria Coma i Pedrals, with Pau Casan as pianist. The choir has performed in Barcelona, Mallorca, Tàrrega, Pamplona, San Sebastián, Montpellier (France), and Pisa and Turin (Italy). It has collaborated with leading orchestras and choirs, including the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. The choir has also worked with distinguished conductors such as Erkki Pohjola, Pasi Hyökki, Marek Janowski, Semyon Bychkov, Zubin Mehta, Jonathan Nott, Iván Fischer, John Eliot Gardiner, María Valdivieso and Basilio Astúlez.
In the symphonic-choral repertoire, it has performed the children’s chorus parts in Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler and the children’s choir part in St Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. The choir has also staged Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo by Joseph Horovitz and sung the children’s chorus in Suor Angelica and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
In 2024, the choir took part in performances of Bach’s St Matthew Passion at the Palau de la Música Catalana and Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música, alongside Vespres d’Arnadí and the Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música Catalana under the direction of Christoph Prégardien. The same year, it also participated in a musical exchange with the Portuguese choir Jovens Cantores de Guimarães. Highlights of 2025 included a choral workshop in Barcelona with Niños Cantores de Morelia, as well as a musical exchange with Piccoli Cantori di Torino in Turin. Another notable event was a concert conducted by María Guinand alongside choirs from the SCIC, featuring works by Alberto Grau. The choir also appeared in productions of The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček and La Gioconda by Amilcare Ponchielli as part of the 2025 season of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Finally, it performed at the Palau de la Música Catalana in La nit de Nadal by Joan Lamote de Grignon, alongside the Orfeó Gracienc and the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès under the direction of Salvador Brotons.
The Children’s Choir forms part of the Orfeó Català Choral School, which receives support from the Banco Santander Foundation.
