On Sunday 9 May at 6 pm, lovers of musicals have a not-to-be-missed appointment with the Symphony Band and the singers Mone Teruel and Sergi Albert in L’Auditori de Barcelona’s Hall 1, Pau Casals.
The concert, to be conducted by José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana, will introduce the audience to the greatest works from musicals performed in London’s West End and New York’s Broadway. These pieces have been part of our lives at one time or another, moving us with their theatre productions or film adaptations. Their plots have transcended generations of audiences worldwide, and both their characters and their songs have become 20th-century icons.
One of the most iconic musicals is perhaps The Phantom of the Opera, which was first performed in London in 1986, followed by Broadway in New York a couple of years later. At around the same time, the Dagoll Dagom production with music by Albert Guinovart Mar i cel gave a breath of fresh air to a pre-Olympic city that was also the capital of this musical genre.
A must-see concert that will make you revisit your own memories while providing a few surprises, such as Tintin. The Temple of the Sun, a musical based on the adventures of Hergé’s most famous character.
