Musician Jon Hopkins will perform at L'Auditori de Barcelona on 24 September 2022. The artist was forced to cancel his tour due to the pandemic but will resume it again next year. Tickets already purchased will be valid for the new date.
Jon Hopkins has based his entire musical career on contrast, polarisation, the destructive storm and the healing calm. Whether it be in his five studio albums (his last, the highly-acclaimed Singularity released in 2018), his soundtracks (especially celebrated is his 2010 Monsters), the exceptionally outstanding cult album Diamond Mine with King Creosote, or his latest forays into music for meditation (Singing Bowl (Ascension) a 20 minute track for meditation, released last year), the English artist and producer is an authentic alchemist of organic electronica. Able to venture into suffocating martial techno atmospheres but a few moments later saunter into a landscape of contemplative ambient music, his radically contrasting offering does not divide but rather is understood as a whole: the bursts of frenzy would be distressing if they were not followed afterwards by these peaceful respites... and vice versa.
True to his spirit, Jon Hopkins’ Polarity tour will present the duality of the artist for the first time in one single performance, or, in the words of Hopkins himself, "the two disparate elements of harsh and fragile” in his music. The staging will see a grand piano alongside his regular analogue machines and this time he will also be accompanied by musicians Leo Abrahams (guitarist), Emma Smith (violinist) and Daisy Vatalaro (cellist).
