Following the enthusiastic reception of the first volume of Catalan Wind Music, the Barcelona Symphony Band and the conductor Salvador Brotons are back to present a second album bearing the Naxos seal, which records works of prominent Catalan composers for the first time.
The album opens with the festive Música per a un diumenge, (Music for a Sunday) by Xavier Montsalvatge, followed by the piece Jocs temàtics (Thematic games) by Joan Albert Amargós, where the instruments toy with dramatic force and timbre.
The album continues with the dramatic and moving Symphony No. 1 by the composer Elisenda Fábregas and ends with the impeccable and punchy A Double Bass Fantasy by Moisès Bertran, a piece featuring the double bassist Jonathan Camps as soloist.
