Program

The versatile jazz pianist, improviser and composer Marco Mezquida takes us on a dreamy voyage through the musical and personal imagery of Maurice Ravel. The dream weaves its way through the modernity of his legacy and the eclecticism of the music he was captivated by: from French classicism to romantic virtuosity; from experimentation with popular music to the influence of his contemporaries and the effervescence of jazz.

Along with percussionist Aleix Tobías and cellist Martín Meléndez, Marco Mezquida provides a personal and unique reworking of the music of the great Ravel: he adds groove, enhances it using improvisation and peppers it with contemporary music textures.

Ravel’s Dreams, is a work commissioned by L’Auditori which premiered on 20 February 2016 as part of the Revisitings project in Hall 3. The work will receive an enthusiastic welcome from the critics and public alike, and it will captivate both jazz and classical music lovers.

Marco Mezquida returns to L'Auditori to present the official album of his homage to Maurice Ravel as part of the Jazz Sessions at L’Auditori. The concert is staged in association with the 49 Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival, which this year features an Artist’s Portrait dedicated to Mezquida.
