Our musical offer.

Auditori Simfònica

2010-2011 Season

It is a pleasure to present the Barcelona Symphonic and Catalonia National Orchestra 2010-11 season. It is a very special season for me as I am undoubtedly setting off on the thrilling adventure of being the conductor of a prestigious orchestra like the OBC. I am very excited at this new stage of my career, and I look forward to putting all my interest and energy into working with the musicians and team of the OBC. Together we will consolidate an artistically stable, solid, sensitive unit through constant work and artistic dialogue. This is a long distance race, a symphonic trip without hurrying but unceasing, on which I invite you to accompany us.

This season we are starting our particular musical trip with Mahler, Schumann and Gerhard, and will take time to enjoy specific musical scenes. I wanted to celebrate the anniversary of the birth and death of Gustav Mahler by approaching the essence and origin of his marvellous symphonic legacy: the Lied. We commemorate Schumann’s centenary with a complete series of his symphonies, and his concerts for violin and cello. Robert Gerhard is our third figure, a regular composer of the OBC seasons, to whom we have wished to pay special attention this year in the Auditori program as a referent not only of Catalan music, but also of 20th century European music. Ramon Humet, Salvador Brotons and Enric Palomar were the composers to whom we commissioned the respective works that the OBC will perform for the fist time this season.

The next stop on the trip will last two seasons and focus on the Russian and Swedish ballets (the second so unfairly forgotten).

An intense musical trip full of sensations that we offer with all of our interest in the hope that you will enjoy it to the full.

Pablo González.
Chief Conductor of the OBC
