Our musical offer.

Auditori Món

Músiques Llatines 2010

The phenomenon of immigrant in recent years has transformed Catalonia into a mosaic of widely different cultures, where the population from other countries accounts for 16% of the total inhabitants in the region. In this context, all of society needs to pull together to ensure the full integration of the new arrivals, to build bridges and tear down barriers. Given this, the Auditori, as a public body, wants to collaborate in this task and bring us together through culture and music. This led to its initiating this cycle of concerts last year which emphasise the Latin American community, the largest in our country, after the Maghreb community and others from different parts of Europe.

This proposal, which was so well received in the last edition, is back on stage at the Auditori with a wide range of musical styles, which, to a large extent, are unknown and unfamiliar to us: salsa, danzón, timba, mambo, son, guajira, cumbia, yaraví, bolero, ballenato and tango. We could go on and never stop naming the vast array of musical traditions that have swept through the Caribbean countries and Central and South America. Our desire at the Auditori is to lap up this great wealth of music. We want to give a voice to nations such as Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Nicaragua to enable them to show us one of their most important legacies. Our aim is that they participative actively in our culture and, this way, we can learn from each other. Only like this will we all progress towards the future, uniting forces and with a sense of curiosity towards the world around us.
